Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What time does club meet?
A: Club meets on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 5:15pm-7:00pm in IM West Room 150.
Q: What do we do at club?
A: Taekwondo, of course! But if you're looking for a little more detail...Monday's we practice basic technique, Wednesday's are for forms (poomsae), and Friday's are sparring (kyorogi).
Q: I have no previous experience in Taekwondo, can I still join?
A: Yes, absolutely! We welcome people of all skill levels. Most new club members do not have any previous experience - no need to worry!
Q: What should I wear to practice?
A: If this is your first time, just wear comfortable exercise clothing. We practice barefoot, so don't worry about your shoes.
If you've practiced before and have your belt and uniform, feel free to wear those.
Q: I don't have a uniform, where can I get one?
A: You can purchase a uniform through the club. Just let one of the officers know.
Q: My classes conflict with club, can I come late and/or leave early?
A: We know you're all students first, so if you need to, then yes. However, please be aware that the warm up and cool down we do at the beginning and end of practice is really important to your training.
Q: I can't make it to every club meeting, can I still be part of the club?A: Of course. We don't take attendance. We're happy to see you whenever you can make it!
Q: Are there any club dues?
A: Yes, club dues are $40 per semester. The dues go towards purchasing new equipment and help offset additional costs.
Q: Is competing a requirement?
A: No. We encourage everyone to try it out; however, if you're not comfortable, you don't have to participate in any competitions. It's up to you!
Q: Are there opportunities to advance in rank?
A: Yes. We have belt tests every semester.
Q: I'm already enrolled in KIN 102K, can I still join the club?
A: Yes, though we recommend that you spend a few weeks in class before joining the club. This makes transitioning to club easier. Ultimately, it's up to you.
